Rebecca Dowbiggin CATALYST teacher and curriculum advisor

Educated at both the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, Rebecca has worked as an Education Consultant and as an Academic Tutor & Mentor for over fifteen years. She is delighted to be working with CATALYST to design and develop their curricula and assessments.

Having graduated with Distinction from the University of Oxford (MSc in Educational Assessment), Rebecca continues to develop her pedagogical practice and align her approach with the latest in educational research. She has a keen interest in the role that emerging technologies will play in the future of assessment and in writing curricula that develop students’ eductive ability and their cross-curricular knowledge, skills and understanding (KUS).

Dr Alex Clayton

Alex’s professional journey is deeply rooted in both education and environmental advocacy. As the current Head of Geography at Winchester College, Alex possesses a rich background in teaching, research, and leadership. His fieldwork experience spans diverse terrains from the towering peaks of the Himalayas, to the icy expanse of Iceland, as well as regions in the Alps and Cambodia.

Within Winchester College, Alex's influence extends beyond teaching. As an adviser, he collaborates closely with the Bursar, offering insights on internal policies, communication strategies related to sustainability, and greenhouse gas quantification and reporting.

Clarissa Farr CATALYST teacher and curriculum advisor

Clarissa is an educator, author, and advocate of women’s empowerment. Her career in education spans both the UK's independent and state sectors, as well as international schools. Notably, she is the former Headmistress of St Paul’s Girls school in London.

Outside the classroom, Clarissa has been active in various non-executive roles. She served on the Royal Ballet School's Board for eleven years and is currently a Fellow of Winchester College. Additionally, she's a Trustee for both the African Gifted Foundation and the British Museum, where she also leads the British Museum Friends Advisory Council.

Trained as a philosopher, Beth is deeply passionate about philosophy, theology, and religious studies. As the Head of Philosophy at Winchester College, she is keen on guiding students as they navigate complex philosophical inquiries about self, society, and the world at large.

Through her involvement in CATALYST and her broader educational endeavors, Beth hopes to be part of this transformative shift.

Paresh Thakrar Bursar Winchester College CATALYST teacher and curriculum advisor

With an extensive 25-year career spanning organisations such as McKinsey & Company, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and Deutsche Bank, Paresh's diverse experiences have taken him across continents from Europe to Asia and Africa. His roles have delved deep into strategy, investments, technology, and operations, starting from an investment bank to significant assignments with the Ministry of Defence and even an overseas stint in Nairobi.

Educated at Cambridge, where he secured a First in Natural Sciences and Management, and with an MBA from the London Business School, Paresh is not just academically strong but also possesses a pragmatic approach to challenges. Beyond his professional commitments, he serves as a Trustee for Parkinson's UK and enjoys cricket, travel, and the lively company of his three young sons.

At CATALYST, Teboho brings her multifaceted experiences to the classroom. Her approach is rooted in a blend of theoretical knowledge and real-world insights, aiming to equip students with a comprehensive understanding. Through her guidance, Teboho hopes to inspire students to not only grasp the intricacies of their subjects but also to recognise their potential impact in broader societal contexts.

With a solid background in political science and economics, Teboho integrates her academic knowledge into her teaching practices. Her educational journey began at the African Leadership Academy, and she later ventured into various roles within the financial industry.

Emma greenwood (Mentor)

Determined to bridge the generational gap in decision-making, Emma champions the importance of inclusive dialogue and young voices in shaping the future. Emma's footprint is notably significant in the realm of climate activism. She's an active member of the international "Youth Strike 4 Climate" movement and also proudly co-founded its Manchester chapter.

Beyond her roles and affiliations, Emma's voice is a force in its own right. She's an ardent public speaker, having shared her insights on platforms like "The One Show", the JFK Human Rights Foundation, and the Manchester International Festival. Through every endeavor, Emma consistently underscores the transformative power and relevance of youth engagement in our rapidly evolving world.
